QC Spa Salsomaggiore
Near Salsomaggiore Terme, Emilia-Romagna, Italy
A large QC day spa opened in late 2025 inside the restored Palazzo Berzieri, the 1923 Liberty and Art Deco bathhouse of Salsomaggiore. QC does not say the pools use the town's salt-rich thermal water, so treat them as heated pools.

- The spa fills the Palazzo Berzieri, decorated by Galileo Chini and opened in 1923, plus the old thermal power station behind it.
- Three panoramic pools sit on the roof of the former power station, looking over the Emilian hills.
- QC lists 6 indoor and 4 outdoor pools, 9 saunas and 10 relaxation rooms.
- Not a hot spring: QC names no thermal source for its pools. Medical cures with the local salsobromoiodic water are at Terme Zoja.
A spa in a famous bathhouse, without the famous water
Salsomaggiore Terme, in the hills of the province of Parma, built its fortune on water. Not hot water: salt water. The town takes its name from the salt drawn from underground brine since Celtic and Roman times, and in 1839 a local doctor, Lorenzo Berzieri, began using that salsobromoiodic water for cures. By the Belle Époque the town was one of Europe’s spa resorts, and in 1923 it opened the Palazzo Berzieri, a bathhouse so lavishly decorated that it was billed as the most beautiful in the world.
That building is now QC Spa Salsomaggiore, which QC markets as “QC Spa of Wonders”. It is a striking place to spend a day. It is not a hot spring, and QC does not claim the pools use the local water. Its pages call this a wellness circuit and name no source, and its opening press release is all about the restoration. The brine itself is not something you would swim in neat: Italy’s national tourism board says it is about five times saltier than the Mediterranean, and even the medical pool at Terme Zoja uses it diluted. So treat the QC pools as heated wellness pools.
If you want the water for its own sake, the town’s medical spa, Terme di Salsomaggiore, runs cures at Terme Zoja in Parco Mazzini, some of them under agreement with the national health service. That is a medical centre, not a leisure spa.
What to expect
The spa spreads across about 9,000 square metres (97,000 sq ft) in two buildings, according to Greenme.
Palazzo Berzieri is the showpiece. Galileo Chini designed the decoration with the architects Ugo Giusti and Giulio Bernardini, mixing Liberty and Art Deco with eastern touches Chini brought back from Siam. Outside, the word THERMAE runs across the facade between two blue lions. Inside, QC has put relaxation rooms, saunas, biosaunas, a massage lounge and a bistro among restored frescoes, mosaics and stucco, and the monumental entrance and staircase are part of the visit.
The Ex-Centrale Termica, the old thermal power station behind the palace, holds most of the water. QC describes pools on several levels, skylights, suspended bridges and double-height terraces, with three panoramic pools on the roof looking out over the Emilian hills. The style is industrial: bare concrete, metal and plants. A sauna is modelled on the old brick chimney, and some practices use wooden wine barrels as a nod to local winemaking.
QC counts more than 40 wellness practices, with 6 indoor pools, 4 outdoor pools, 10 relaxation rooms and 9 saunas. Names to look for: the outdoor Infinity Pool, the Sauna Cinema, the Biosauna Fiori d’Inverno, the lavender-scented Salotto della Lavanda, a suspended pool and a relaxation room called Il Sottosopra.
Entry includes the robe, towel, slippers and the “Aperiterme” evening aperitif. Bring a swimsuit.
Getting there
The address is Piazza Lorenzo Berzieri 1, 43039 Salsomaggiore Terme, in the centre of town. The Pozzo Scotti, the old brine well with its glass and iron cover, stands opposite.
- By car: Salsomaggiore sits in the hills south-west of Fidenza, which is on the A1 Milan to Bologna motorway. Parma is about 28 km (17 miles) to the east in a straight line.
- Parking: QC recommends two paid car parks: P5a Mercato on Via Giovanni Pascoli, about 6 minutes’ walk, and Viale Lavoro, about 10 minutes’ walk.
- By train: the nearest main-line station is Fidenza; from there, continue by local bus or taxi.
When to go
The spa is open every day: 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and 9 a.m. to midnight on Friday and Saturday. QC posts holiday hours separately.
This is a new spa in a famous building, so weekends and Italian holidays book up. Weekday mornings are the quietest. The late-entry slot from 7:30 p.m. is the cheapest ticket and gives you the rooftop pools after dark. Salsomaggiore is in the Po Valley foothills, where winters are damp and foggy and summers hot, so the outdoor pools are at their most pleasant in spring and autumn.

History of the building
The Palazzo Berzieri project began in 1912 and the bathhouse was inaugurated in 1923. Greenme reports that the original works cost 23 million lire and employed hundreds of craftsmen, from ironworkers to ceramicists from the Chini kilns at Borgo San Lorenzo. The town’s thermal trade later declined: Greenme cites 684,000 visitors in 2004 and about 200,000 twenty years later. The owning company went into a creditors’ arrangement in 2015, Cassa Depositi e Prestiti bought the building on June 29, 2021, and it was leased to QC, the group founded by Andrea Quadrio Curzio. Greenme puts the restoration at €40 million; other press reports give more than €44 million.
Where to stay nearby
QC has no hotel here, so this is a day spa. Salsomaggiore has many hotels from its spa-town heyday, many of them a short walk from Piazza Berzieri. Tabiano Terme, the neighbouring spa village, has its own sulphur-water spa. Parma, a short drive east, has the widest choice of hotels and restaurants.
Safety notes
- Saunas and alcohol. The evening aperitif includes sparkling wine. Drink water between sauna rounds and keep sessions short after a drink.
- Wet floors. Expect slippery stone and tile in a historic building, and stairs between levels.
- Health. QC bars pregnant women. Anyone with heart or blood pressure problems should ask a doctor before using saunas and hot pools.
Other QC spas

QC Spa Salsomaggiore: common questions
Does QC Spa Salsomaggiore use Salsomaggiore's thermal water?
QC does not say so. Its pages call the circuit a "percorso benessere" (wellness circuit) and name no spring, and its opening press release talks about the building, not the water. Salsomaggiore's famous salsobromoiodic water is a brine that Italy's tourism board says is about five times saltier than the Mediterranean. It is used for medical cures at Terme Zoja, where the pool water is diluted for supervised therapy. Treat the QC pools as heated wellness pools unless QC states otherwise.
When did QC Spa Salsomaggiore open?
QC announced the opening in a press release dated November 2025, and Greenme reported the Berzieri reopening in December 2025. The building had been closed for years after the old spa company went into a creditors' arrangement in 2015. Cassa Depositi e Prestiti bought it in 2021 and leased it to QC, and work started in 2023.
How much does QC Spa Salsomaggiore cost in 2026?
Prices vary with the date. The official list starts at €54 for 5 hours, €72 for unlimited day entry, €54 for evening entry from 5 p.m. and €44 for the "sotto le stelle" entry from 7:30 p.m. Entry with a 25, 50 or 75-minute massage starts at €116, €160 and €210. QC also lists a residents' rate.
Can children go to QC Spa Salsomaggiore?
No. QC does not admit anyone under 14, and pregnant women are not admitted either.
Where do you park for QC Spa Salsomaggiore?
QC points to two paid car parks: P5a Mercato on Via Giovanni Pascoli, about 6 minutes on foot, and Viale Lavoro, about 10 minutes on foot.
