What to expect

Cserkeszőlő is a small village on the Great Hungarian Plain, between Kunszentmárton and Szentes, and its thermal bath is the reason most visitors come. The bath is run by the village council and covers about 7.5 hectares of lawns, trees and pools. It is a typical Hungarian “strand and spa”: a medical centre with prescription treatments, a set of hot medicinal pools used by older regulars, and a summer lido with a wave pool and slides for families.

In summer it is busy and loud, with families spread out on the grass. From October to April it shrinks to the indoor and year-round medicinal pools and becomes a quiet place for a long soak.

The water is classed as medicinal water, and the medical centre offers treatments that the national health fund subsidises on prescription, such as medicinal pool baths, mud packs, weight baths, underwater jet massage and group therapy in the water.

The pools

The operator lists these pools on the summer site:

  • Children’s pool
  • Swimming pool
  • Wave pool
  • Adventure pool, built around a water castle with slides, bubbling floor jets, geysers, neck and back massage jets and a large bucket that tips several cubic metres of water over the people below at intervals. The floor deepens gradually, so parents can stay in with small children.
  • Teaching pool
  • Medicinal adventure pool

The medicinal pools are numbered:

  • Pool I: 102°F39°C, 0.9 m deep.
  • Pools II and III: 97-100°F36-38°C, 0.9 m deep.
  • Pool IV: 93-97°F34-36°C. This is the pool that stays open all year.
  • Pool V: 95-99°F35-37°C.

There is also a Finnish sauna, a salt room, giant slides and a canvas slide that you use with your wristband, and a small paid water play park.

Getting there

The bath is at Fürdő utca 25, 5465 Cserkeszőlő, in Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County.

  • By car from Budapest: about 130-140 km (81-87 miles), roughly 1.5 to 1.75 hours depending on route.
  • From Szolnok: about 35 km (22 miles) to the north as the crow flies. Szentes is about 25 km (16 miles) to the south.
  • By train: there is no station in the village. The nearest is Kunszentmárton, about 8 km (5 miles) away, on the Szolnok to Szentes line.

Parking around the bath is charged during the day, at HUF 250 an hour or HUF 1,000 a day according to a 2026 visitor guide, and there is free parking a little further out near the sports ground.

When to go

The bath opens every day of the year. 2026 hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. from Sunday to Thursday and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The ticket desk closes an hour before closing, and you must leave the pools by 6:30 p.m. (7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday). During the autumn school break, October 23 to 31, 2026, the bath is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day. The medical desk for prescription treatments closes at 6 p.m.

The full site runs from May 1 to September 30. May, June and September give you the wave pool and outdoor pools at the middle price. July and August are the busiest and most expensive. In winter only part of the bath is open, but the hot pools are quieter and tickets are cheapest.

Bathing culture

Hungarian bath etiquette applies. Shower before getting in, wear a swimsuit, and treat the medicinal pools as quiet pools: many people there are on a doctor-prescribed course of treatment. Keep soaks in the hottest pool short. In the sauna, sit on a towel or sheet; the bath rents sauna sheets for HUF 400. Your wristband is your ticket, your key to services such as the sauna and slides, and your pass for re-entry the same day, so keep it on.

Where to stay nearby

The bath runs its own Touring Hotel, holiday houses and the Thermal Camping campsite next to the pools, and hotel guests get reduced sauna and salt-room prices. The village has many private guesthouses and apartments that advertise walking distance to the bath. For a larger town, Szentes and Kunszentmárton are close by, and Szolnok has the widest choice of hotels in the county.

Safety notes

  • Heat: Pool I is held at 102°F39°C. Limit soaks to 15 or 20 minutes, drink water and get out slowly.
  • Medical conditions: Medicinal water is not for everyone. Check with a doctor before using the hot pools if you have heart problems, high blood pressure or are pregnant.
  • Children: Watch young children closely around the wave pool and slides, and in crowded summer pools.
  • Sun: The summer lawns have shade trees, but the Great Plain gets very hot in July and August. Take a hat and sunscreen.
