  • The water rises naturally at 81°F27°C. It is a mineral spa, not a hot spring.
  • Day visitors buy a Day Spa package (from €70, or €85 with lunch) to use the pools, saunas and steam rooms.
  • The spa is best known for psoriasis and atopic dermatitis programmes, including ones for children.
  • A 14-hectare park with lakes, old trees and a barefoot sensory path surrounds the buildings.

What to expect

Terme di Comano sits in the Giudicarie valley of western Trentino, at Ponte Arche in the comune of Comano Terme, between Lake Garda to the south and the Brenta Dolomites to the north. The area is part of the Alpi Ledrensi and Judicaria UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The complex is run by the Azienda Consorziale Terme di Comano and combines a medical spa, a wellness area and the Grand Hotel Terme di Comano, all set in a 14-hectare park.

Be clear about the water before you go. It is a bicarbonate, calcium and magnesium water that rises naturally at 81°F27°C. In Italy any registered mineral water used for cures can be called “termale”, but this is not a hot spring in the sense most soakers mean. A 2025 guide described the pools as lukewarm, and the operator does not publish pool temperatures or say whether any pool is warmed. The outdoor semi-Olympic pool used chlorinated thermal water in 2025.

Comano’s reputation is medical. The spa has built its name on skin conditions, and it markets its water and programmes for psoriasis and atopic dermatitis, with separate programmes for children. If you come for a swim and a sauna, you are one of the minority. Many guests are on a two-week cure.

The pools and spa

The Thermal Spa is in the Grand Hotel and covers about 3,500 square metres. The operator lists two outdoor pools in the park, an indoor thermal pool, saunas, steam rooms, thermal showers and relaxation areas. A 2025 guide gave more detail:

  • Outdoor semi-Olympic pool with chlorinated thermal water, linked to a panoramic indoor thermal pool.
  • Whirlpools and water cascades in the thermal pool area.
  • Rooftop pool with fresh water, open in summer only.
  • Indoor fresh-water pool and a nebulised thermal shower.
  • Bio sauna, thalasso bath and Mediterranean bath, plus massages and treatments with stones from the Sarca river.

There is also a drinking fountain with Comano water, and the park has small lakes, old trees, a stream and a barefoot sensory path with eleven stations. Since 2025 the park has been certified for forest therapy, and staff lead daily stretching, Pilates, Nordic walking and forest-bathing sessions.

Prices and booking

Day visitors buy a Day Spa package rather than a simple pool ticket. The 2026 website lists:

  • Day Spa solo benessere: from €70, full-day entry, no food.
  • Un giorno alle Terme: from €85 per person, full day with a wellness lunch.
  • Sensi e sapori: from €90, afternoon entry with dinner.
  • Puro benessere: from €135, full day with lunch.
  • Longevity: from €160, full day with lunch.

“From” means prices vary by date. Book through the website or call 0465 763 300 (email info@termecomano.it, WhatsApp 348 524 2459). The operator does not publish age limits or towel and robe rules for day guests, so ask when you book if you are bringing children.

Medical cure cycles are a separate route. The SSN (Italian national health service) covers 12-session cycles for psoriasis, atopic dermatitis and some respiratory, gynaecological and circulatory conditions. You need a regional “ricetta rossa” prescription from your GP showing the diagnosis, its code and the cycle, plus ID and your health card. The admission medical visit is included. Normally one SSN cycle is covered per calendar year. You pay the standard SSN contribution unless exempt; the website does not state the amount.

Getting there

  • By car: Leave the A22 Brenner motorway at Trento Nord or Trento Sud and follow signs for Madonna di Campiglio. The spa is on the SS237, about 30 km (19 miles) from the motorway exit. From Brescia, the SS237 del Caffaro route is about 100 km (62 miles).
  • By public transport: Take the train to Trento, then a Trentino Trasporti bus toward “Terme di Comano - Ponte Arche”. The bus stop is next to the spa.

Parking at the spa is large and free. Campervans can use the parking area at Ponte Arche.

When to go

The spa works on a long season. Visit Trentino lists it as open until January 10, 2027, and gives provisional 2027 dates of March 25, 2027 to January 9, 2028. In past years the main season ran from about April to November with a separate winter opening from mid-December to mid-January, so check which areas are open if you visit in the gap between them. The medical clinic works year-round by appointment.

Late spring and September are the best months for the outdoor pools and the park. The rooftop fresh-water pool opens only in summer. Midweek is quieter than weekends for Day Spa visits.

Where to stay nearby

The Grand Hotel Terme di Comano is inside the complex and houses the Thermal Spa. Ponte Arche, the village around the spa, has smaller hotels, apartments and restaurants. Trento, the provincial capital, is about 19 km (12 miles) east in a straight line, but the road through the valleys is longer and slower.

Safety notes

  • Medical programmes: cure cycles start with a medical visit. Tell the doctor about any medicines or conditions.
  • Children: the spa runs children’s skin programmes, but the operator does not publish age rules for the Day Spa. Confirm before you go.
  • Chlorine: the outdoor pool uses chlorinated thermal water, which matters if you have sensitive skin.

Nearby stops worth adding

Other Trentino spas also run on cold or tepid mineral water. Terme di Levico in the Valsugana uses an iron and arsenic water for baths and mud, and Terme di Rabbi in Val di Rabbi is built on a cold, fizzy iron spring. Terme di Pejo is in the next valley over from Rabbi. QC Spa Dolomiti in Val di Fassa heats a cold mineral spring for its pools. For naturally hot water, the nearest option is Bormio in Lombardy, with QC Bagni Nuovi and the free Pozza di Leonardo, a long drive north-west over the mountains.
