- The big Liberty-style thermal park, with its 1913 dome, is free to walk in from late April to mid-October.
What to expect
Terme di Boario is an old-school Italian spa town resort in the lower Val Camonica, the long Alpine valley that runs north from Lake Iseo in the province of Brescia. It is not a hot spring in the usual sense. The operator says its four springs, Antica Fonte, Fausta, Igea and Boario, are cold sulphate-bicarbonate waters at 55-59°F13-15°C. For more than two centuries people have come here to drink them, slowly, while walking through the park. That is still the core of the place.
The history is real. A “Casino Boario” was built in the late 1700s, and by the second half of the 1800s it had become a fashionable cure resort. The operator notes that the novelist Alessandro Manzoni ordered more than a hundred bottles of the water for a liver complaint. The Liberty-style dome with its balconies and Ionic columns, now the symbol of the spa, went up in 1913. Two of the waters are still sold in bottles (Fonte Essenziale and Acqua Boario); the other two can only be drunk on site.
For a casual visitor the useful part is the SPA & Wellness centre. It has two pools filled with thermal water, an outdoor pool with whirlpool jets looking over the thermal park, a Finnish sauna, a Turkish bath, a “Mediterranean” bath, sensory showers, a Kneipp path, an ice fountain, a relaxation area and a salt room. Because the source water is cold, these pools are heated. The operator does not publish pool temperatures.
Expect a calm, adult atmosphere. Children under 14 are not allowed in the spa.
Getting there
The spa is at Corso Italia 91 in Darfo Boario Terme, in the centre of the Boario Terme district. Italy’s tourism board places the town a few kilometres from Lake Iseo, at the foot of the Bergamasque Alps.
- By car from Brescia or Bergamo: head for the north end of Lake Iseo and continue up the valley road toward Darfo Boario Terme and Val Camonica. Boario is the first sizeable town in the valley after the lake.
- By train: the regional railway from Brescia along Lake Iseo to Edolo stops at Darfo-Corna station, about 1 km (0.6 miles) south of the spa entrance on Corso Italia.
If you are touring the lakes, Boario pairs well with a day on Lake Garda: see Terme di Sirmione and QC Spa Villa Arzaga Garda. The naturally hot pools at Bormio, such as QC Bagni Nuovi, are further north in the Alps.
When to go
The spa is open all year, but on a fixed slot system and never on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. In 2026 the entry times were:
- Monday and Thursday: 12:30 or 4pm
- Friday: 12:30, 4pm or 7:30pm
- Saturday: 10am, 1:30pm or 5pm
- Sunday: 10am or 1:30pm
Sunday sessions were cancelled from June 28 to August 30, 2026, and restarted on September 6. Over the holidays the spa adds extra openings, including December 7 and 8, every day from December 19, 2026 to January 5, 2027 (closed Christmas Day), and January 6, 2027. The operator warns that times can change with the weather or the number of bookings, and that it may close early if nobody has booked.
The cure centre has a season: in 2026 it opened on May 4 and closes on December 19. The thermal park is run by the Thermae & Ski Valle Camonica tourism consortium and is free to enter every day from 8am to 8pm, from late April to October 12. For the 2026 season the consortium says the free public fountains in the park are closed for maintenance, so you cannot simply walk in and drink from them this year.
Prices and booking
The spa sells entries in its online shop and at the desk. The 2026 prices were:
- 3-hour spa entry, weekday: €35
- 3-hour spa entry, weekend or holiday: €45
- All Day Spa & Sauna, weekday: €60, unlimited time within the day’s opening plus a light meal
- All Day Spa & Sauna, weekend: €80
A weekday couples’ entry was on offer at €60 for two. Every spa ticket includes a welcome kit with a bathrobe, slippers and a swim cap. Vouchers bought in 2026 are valid from May 29 to December 31, 2026. Massages and beauty treatments are extra, from about €30.
Booking is compulsory. After buying, call +39 0364 525011 or email info@termediboario.it to confirm your slot. If your birthday falls in the week of your visit, the operator gives you a free 3-hour entry when you come with one full-price guest (not combinable with vouchers or promotions).
Thermal cures are a separate, medical service. Italian residents can have one 12-day cycle a year under the national health service with a prescription from their own doctor, paying a €55 ticket. Everyone needs a booked admission visit with the spa doctor. Visitors without a prescription can pay for cures privately. Drinking cures, inhalations, mud and bath therapy and a vascular walking path are on offer.
Where to stay nearby
The spa’s partner hotel is the Rizzi Aquacharme Hotel & Spa on Via Carducci in Boario Terme, with its own small spa and the Acero Rosso restaurant. Boario has other hotels from its days as a busy spa town, and Darfo is right next door. The towns on the northern shore of Lake Iseo, such as Lovere and Pisogne, make a good alternative base if you would rather sleep by the water.
Nearby stops worth adding
The Luine Archaeological Park on the edge of town has rock carvings from the Upper Palaeolithic to the Iron Age, a good introduction to the rock art that runs the length of Val Camonica. A walking route links Darfo Boario Terme with Angolo Terme and Piancogno through vineyards and olive groves, and Gorzone Castle, built in the mid-12th century, is close by.
Safety notes
- Age limits: the spa is for guests aged 14 and over only.
- Heat: saunas and steam rooms are hot even if the pools are not. Drink water and take breaks.
- Medical cures: drinking cures and mud therapy are prescribed treatments. Mud and bath therapy need an ECG at the admission visit. Do not treat the waters as something to drink in quantity on your own.
- Changing hours: check the spa’s hours page the week you go. Slots and closed days change by season.
