What to expect
Miracle Hot Springs is a working geothermal bathhouse in the Snake River country north of Buhl, in south central Idaho. It is a practical, low-key place: outdoor pools, rows of private baths, a few dome rooms and a small campground, all running on water from an artesian well on the property.
The water comes out of the well at about 140°F60°C. The resort cools it by running it through pipes laid in Salmon Falls Creek, then feeds it into the pools. The resort describes the water as soft, odorless and alkaline, with a pH of about 9.6. There is no chlorine. Instead the outdoor pools are drained and cleaned every day, and each private bath is drained between guests.
Expect a quiet visit. There is no Wi-Fi and no cell service, and the resort bans loud music. If you need to make a call, ask at the office.
The pools
Outdoor pools. Four large geothermal pools sit in the open air, each kept at its own temperature somewhere between about 96 and 106°F36 and 41°C depending on the season. There are tables, chairs and benches around them. One pool has chess tables built into the water, and there is a cold dip for contrast soaking.
Private pools. The resort has 21 private baths. Regular private pools hold up to four adults and have a private changing area, temperature controls and an open ceiling, so you see the sky. VIP pools hold up to six adults and add a private changing room and a patio. Booking any private pool also gets you all-day access to the outdoor pools.
Cold plunge and massage. A cold plunge can be added to a general admission booking, and the resort offers single and couples massage, either before or after a soak. Massage needs its own reservation.
Getting there
The address is 19073 A Hwy 30, Buhl, ID 83316. The resort sits right beside US-30, so there is no walk beyond the parking lot.
- From Twin Falls: Head west on US-30 through Filer and Buhl and continue north on US-30. The resort puts the drive at about 40 minutes.
- From Boise: About 1 hour 45 minutes by the resort’s estimate, using I-84 east and then US-30 through the Hagerman Valley.
- From Ketchum or Sun Valley: About 1 hour 40 minutes.
- From Salt Lake City: About 3 hours 45 minutes.
Because there is no cell signal at the resort, check your booking details and save the address before you get close.
When to go
Miracle is open all year. The outdoor pools are at their best on cold mornings from fall through spring, when steam hangs over the water. Summer afternoons in the Snake River plain can be hot, so an evening slot is often more comfortable then.
Weekends and holidays sell out often. Weekdays are the easiest time to get the slot you want. Remember the Sunday closure if you are planning a weekend trip, and note that the resort also closes on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.

Nearby stops worth adding
The resort is on the Thousand Springs stretch of the Snake River, and there are other soaking options close by. Banbury Hot Springs, a short drive away, has been closed for repairs since October 2022, so do not plan on it without calling first. 1000 Springs Resort, north along US-30 toward Hagerman, has a covered pool and private hot tub rooms.
Safety notes
- Heat: The hottest outdoor pool runs about 106°F41°C. Keep soaks short, drink water and get out if you feel lightheaded.
- Private bath controls: Check the water with your hand after adjusting the temperature, since the well water is far hotter than the pool.
- No signal: Plan rides and meeting points before you arrive, because phones will not work on the property.
