Current status
Haruniye Kaplıcaları is closed. The Osmaniye governorship’s official page for the spa opens with a notice that it is temporarily out of service because of renovation work, followed by a note that reservations are not being taken. We checked it in October 2026. The notice carries no date and no reopening date, and we found no news report of the work starting or finishing.
Osmaniye was among the provinces struck by the magnitude 7.8 and 7.5 earthquakes of February 6, 2023, so it is natural to ask whether the quakes caused the closure. We could not confirm it either way. None of the official pages we read mention earthquake damage at the spa, and no damage report for it turned up in our research. Treat the closure as open-ended, and phone before you plan a trip.
The rest of this page describes the spa as it was before the closure, so you know what to expect when it reopens.
What to expect
Haruniye is a small, provincially owned spa in a wooded valley on the Ceyhan River in eastern Osmaniye province. The setting is the main draw: the spa sits where the Aslantaş Dam reservoir ends, on a 2.5 km stretch of river below the Berke Dam, with the forested slopes of Düldül Dağı above. At 620 m (2,030 ft) above sea level it is noticeably cooler than the Çukurova plain in summer, which is why it was once a summer-only retreat for families from Osmaniye and Adana. The governorship says it later began to open in all four seasons.
The water is warm rather than hot. Both the governorship and Düziçi Municipality give its temperature as 90°F32°C, just below body temperature. The governorship describes it as a calcium, magnesium, sulphate and bicarbonate thermal water with 4 mg per litre of fluoride and 332 mg per litre of carbon dioxide, a pH of 6.0 to 7.0 and total mineralisation of about 1,150 to 1,190 mg per litre, and says it is radioactive. It has been used for both bathing and drinking cures, and the official pages list rheumatism, skin, digestive and liver complaints among the traditional uses. Those are local claims, not medical advice.
In 2010 a Hürriyet travel round-up described the spa as holding a Ministry of Health operating licence and being run by the provincial special administration (İl Özel İdaresi). At that time it was being restored, with new apartments, a restaurant and a café being built and the pools renewed. We could not find a recent description of the pools, bath sections or rooms, so the layout may have changed.
Getting there
The spa is in the lands of Kuşçu village, 15 km (9 miles) north of Düziçi town. It is 57 km (35 miles) from Osmaniye city and 143 km (89 miles) from Adana.
- By car: Reach Osmaniye on the TEM motorway (O-52) or the D-400 highway, which cross near the city, then drive north-east to Düziçi and continue north up the Ceyhan valley toward Kuşçu.
- By train: The main railway line passes through Osmaniye city. You would need a taxi or local transport from there.
- By air: The governorship puts Adana and Gaziantep airports about an hour away.
We could not confirm current public transport to the spa itself, and with the site closed there may be none.
When to go
Not now: the spa is closed. When it reopens, the cooler months suit a warm soak, and the valley’s height makes it a relief from the heat of the plain in summer. Weekends and public holidays are likely to be the busiest, as with other provincial spas in southern Turkey.
Prices and booking
There are no current prices and no booking system. The governorship’s page says reservations are not being taken. In 2010 the spa’s own phone number was listed as 0328 884 43 33; we cannot confirm that it still works. For news on reopening, call the Düziçi district governorship on 0328 876 17 00.
Bathing culture
When it reopens, expect the customs of a Turkish public spa. Thermal pools are usually split into men’s and women’s sections or run on separate hours, and private family baths (aile banyosu) let couples and families bathe together. Wear a swimsuit in shared pools, or a cotton peştamal in a hamam, and do not go nude in shared areas. Rinse before you get in and keep soap out of the pool. Many Turkish visitors stay for a course of baths over one to three weeks rather than a single soak, so expect a quiet, early-to-bed atmosphere.
Where to stay nearby
With the spa closed, its own apartments are not available. Düziçi, 15 km (9 miles) south, has shops and simple lodging. Osmaniye city, 57 km (35 miles) away, has more hotels, and Adana, 143 km (89 miles) away, has the widest choice.
Safety notes
- Closed site: Do not enter the spa grounds or buildings while renovation is under way.
- Earthquake zone: Osmaniye lies close to the East Anatolian Fault. Know the exits in any building you stay in.
- River and reservoir: The Ceyhan and the reservoir are deep and can be cold and fast below the dams. Do not swim near dam outlets or power station channels.
- Summer heat: The plain around Osmaniye is very hot in July and August. Carry water when you travel.
Nearby stops worth adding
The name Haruniye comes from a fortress built in 785 or 786 by the Abbasid caliph Harun al-Rashid, and Düziçi’s earlier names were variants of it. Düziçi Municipality lists the Harun Reşit castle as the district’s main historic site. The Aslantaş reservoir stretches south-west from the spa through hilly pine country, and Düldül Dağı, the mountain whose foothills the spa sits on, rises behind it.
