  • The pools are filled with genuine thermal water from Burgenland's third recognised medicinal spring, pumped from 860 m (2,820 ft) at 109°F43°C and cooled to 90-95°F32-35°C.
  • An 8-hectare natural bathing lake sits beside the spa, with a summer beach area called Summer Island.
  • The resort runs ranger-led birding and wildlife safaris into the Neusiedler See-Seewinkel National Park.
  • The sauna world is a nude area for ages 14 and up; the main pools and children's area are for swimsuits.

What to expect

St. Martins Therme & Lodge stands on flat farmland just south of Frauenkirchen in the Seewinkel, the part of Burgenland east of Lake Neusiedl. It is not an Alpine spa. The landscape is steppe, reed beds and shallow salt lakes, and the resort leans into that: the same company that runs the pools employs rangers who lead wildlife trips into the Neusiedler See-Seewinkel National Park.

The spa itself has about 2,000 m² (21,500 sq ft) of water across four indoor and seven outdoor pools, according to the operator. The building is low and glassy, with a large atrium and terraced lounging areas that look out over the lake and the fields. Next to it is an 8-hectare (20-acre) natural bathing lake with a beach and a summer bar. The Lodge, a 194-room hotel, wraps around the lake on the other side.

It is part of VAMED Vitality World, the same group that runs Therme Wien and Therme Laa.

The water

This is real thermal water, which is worth saying because not every Austrian “Therme” uses it. St. Martins pumps a sodium hydrogen carbonate chloride mineral water from 860 m (2,820 ft) underground. It reaches the surface at 109°F43°C with a pH of 7.9, and Burgenland recognises it as a medicinal spring, the third in the province. It is cooled before it goes into the pools.

The operator lists these pools:

  • Thermal indoor and outdoor pools (Atrium): 406 m² and 455 m², both 90-95°F32-35°C, 1.37 m deep.
  • Brine pool (Atrium indoor): 154 m², 90-95°F32-35°C.
  • Active pool: a small 37 m² pool at about 90°F32°C for aqua aerobics.
  • Children’s pools: an indoor active pool, a shallow indoor pool and an outdoor pool on Summer Island, all 90-95°F32-35°C.
  • Sauna garden: a warm pool and a relax pool at 90-95°F32-35°C, and a cold plunge at about 59°F15°C.

The bathing lake is separate. It is a natural lake, not thermal water, so it follows the weather. In late October 2026 the website showed it at 58°F14.6°C.

Sauna culture

The public sauna world is a nude area, as at nearly every Austrian spa. You wear a swimsuit in the pools and leave it in your locker or on a hook before the saunas. Sit on a towel large enough for your whole body. Only guests aged 14 and over may enter.

There are five saunas and steam rooms: a 194°F90°C Kiesel sauna with a panoramic window, a 140°F60°C Pannonia sauna, two 113°F45°C steam baths scented with salt grass and steppe herbs, and an “Entdecker” sauna that varies between 140 and 194°F60 and 90°C. Add an infrared lounge, a waterfall shower area, a fire pit with a round bench outside and a fireplace room. The lake sauna, with direct access into the bathing lake, is reserved for the paid exclusive areas and hotel guests.

Getting there

St. Martins is at Im Seewinkel 1, 7132 Frauenkirchen.

  • From Vienna: about 79 km (49 miles), roughly an hour and 10 minutes, via the A4 east toward Budapest. Leave at Neusiedl am See and follow the B51 south through Neusiedl and on to Frauenkirchen. The resort is signposted.
  • From Vienna Airport: about 63 km (39 miles), under an hour.
  • From Bratislava: about 54 km (33 miles), under an hour.
  • From Neusiedl am See: about 24 km (15 miles), half an hour.

There is an underground garage under the spa at €2 for the first hour, rising to a maximum of €10 a day. Guests with a disability card park free. The garage has a 2.10 m height limit and four EV chargers.

When to go

The spa is open every day of the year, so the question is crowds. Weekends, rainy summer days and the Austrian school holidays are busiest, because the spa is the obvious plan B when Lake Neusiedl’s beaches are rained out. The website shows the current occupancy, and the operator asks guests to reserve ahead.

Spring and autumn are the best seasons for the national park. Migrating birds pass through in numbers, and the resort runs seasonal safaris such as courtship-display tours in spring and great bustard tours. Summer is the season for the bathing lake and Summer Island. Winter is quiet and grey in the Seewinkel, which suits a long soak.

Pools close in turn for annual maintenance. The operator lists the dates on a revision page; in October 2026 none were scheduled.

Prices and booking

Prices listed on the website in October 2026:

  • Day ticket: adults €41, children 7 to 13 €28.50, children 3 to 6 €26.50. Entry until 4:59 p.m.
  • 3-hour ticket: adults €33, children 7 to 13 €26.50, children 3 to 6 €24.50. Each extra half hour costs adults €2.
  • Evening ticket from 5 p.m.: adults €24.50 Sunday to Thursday, €26.50 Friday and Saturday.
  • Best Ager ticket (55+, weekdays): €35.
  • Sauna supplement: €16.50 with a day, 3-hour or Best Ager ticket; €14.50 or €15.50 with an evening ticket.
  • Children under 3: free.

A locker is included. A changing cabin costs €5 extra, and staying past closing time is charged at €5 per quarter hour. For a quieter day, the St. Martins Galleries (€71) and the Relax! day package (€109) add a reserved lounger, bathrobe and towels, the lake sauna and snacks; both are for ages 14 and up and need booking. Bring flip-flops or pool shoes.

Where to stay nearby

The Lodge is the resort’s own 4-star superior hotel, with 194 rooms and suites, a restaurant on the lake and a lodge-only spa.

Frauenkirchen, a small town with a pilgrimage basilica, is a few minutes north. Podersdorf am See on the lakeshore, about 11 km (7 miles) away, has guesthouses, campsites and the main swimming beach. Neusiedl am See has the rail connection to Vienna.

Nearby stops worth adding

The national park visitor centre is in Illmitz, south of the resort, and the shallow salt lakes (Lacken) around Apetlon and Illmitz are the classic birding spots. Schloss Halbturn, a baroque palace, is about 10 km (6 miles) east. The region is flat and has a large network of signed cycle routes, so a bike day followed by a soak works well.

Safety notes

  • Heat: 95°F35°C pools feel mild, but long soaks and sauna rounds still dehydrate you. Drink water between sessions.
  • Lake water: the bathing lake is natural and cold outside summer. Swim only in the marked area and when it is open.
  • Children: the children’s pools are shallow, but there are no lifeguards watching each child. Keep small children within reach.
  • Sun and wind: the Seewinkel is flat and open, with strong sun in summer and cold wind in winter. Bring a hat or a warm layer for the outdoor pools.
