What to expect

Kehida Termál is the main reason most visitors find Kehidakustány, a village of a few thousand people in the Zala hills a short drive north of Hévíz. It is a single large complex that combines a medicinal spa, an indoor adventure bath, an outdoor summer lido and a sauna area, with a hotel attached. The village ran a small thermal bath until 1998; a private company leased it in 2000 and rebuilt it in stages into what you see now.

The water is the draw for regulars. It rises from the well at 120°F49°C and is cooled to 93-97°F34-36°C for the medicinal pools. The operator describes it as calcium-magnesium-hydrogen-carbonate water with a sulphide content, certified as medicinal, and points out that it contains no radon. Families come for the slides and the lazy river. Between them, the complex has around 16 pools.

It is a busy, practical place rather than a historic one, and it works well as a rainy-day or winter alternative to the deep open water of Lake Hévíz.

The pools

Water temperatures as listed by the operator in October 2026:

Adventure (fun and spa) bath, indoors, all year

  • Adventure pool: 82-86°F28-30°C
  • Jacuzzi island: 93-97°F34-36°C
  • Tube slide: 82-86°F28-30°C
  • Children’s pool with slide: 86-90°F30-32°C
  • Lazy river and diving pool: 82-86°F28-30°C

Medicinal spa

  • Indoors, behind a glass wall: a thermal pool with weight bath and neck shower, and a round sitting pool at 90-97°F32-36°C. The thermal pool has a lift for guests with disabilities.
  • Outdoors: a large sitting pool and a roofed sitting pool with medicinal water at 93-97°F34-36°C, plus a medicinal swimming pool.
  • A drinking fountain in the Silence Room.

Outdoor lido (summer)

  • Wave pool 72-75°F22-24°C, outdoor adventure pool 73-82°F23-28°C, two swimming pools (70-79°F21-26°C and 82-90°F28-32°C) and a children’s paddling pool at 79-86°F26-30°C.

Sauna World (Sauna Oasis): Finnish saunas, an infrared sauna, a jacuzzi and a Kneipp treading and cold plunge pool, with scheduled sauna infusion sessions through the afternoon and evening.

The bath website posts live pool status and temperatures, so check it on the day.

Getting there

Kehida Termál is at Kossuth Lajos utca 62, 8784 Kehidakustány. From Budapest, take the M7 toward Lake Balaton and the western end of the lake; expect about two hours for roughly 200 km (125 miles). From Hévíz it is about 15 km (9 miles) by road. Parking is free, in a barrier-controlled car park.

Without a car, travel to Keszthely by train or bus and take a local bus or taxi to Kehidakustány. Check return times before you set out, because rural connections are sparse in the evening.

When to go

The indoor pools, medicinal spa and Sauna World are open all year, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. The outdoor pools close from October 1 to April 30, so a summer visit gets you the wave pool and lido, while a winter visit is all about the indoor and medicinal pools.

Prices follow a main-season calendar. Every Saturday and Sunday, school holidays and public holidays count as main season, as do fixed blocks in 2026 such as June 19 to August 31, October 23 to November 1, and December 22, 2026 to January 3, 2027. Weekdays outside those dates are cheaper and quieter. The operator describes the Sauna Oasis as calm on weekdays and busy at weekends.

Prices and booking

2026 prices, off-season / main season:

  • Adult: 3 hours HUF 4,200 / 4,800; all day HUF 5,600 / 6,400; 3 hours before closing HUF 3,650 / 4,150.

  • Sauna World supplement for adults: HUF 3,200 / 3,550 all day, or HUF 2,400 / 2,650 for 3 hours.

Children under 6 use the adventure bath free. Groups over 20 get 10% off all-day tickets. Hotel guests use all pools and the Sauna Oasis free. The price list says it is valid until withdrawn.

Bathing culture

Swimsuits are worn in all pools. As at most Hungarian medicinal spas, the medicinal pools are for sitting quietly, not for swimming laps or splashing, and the lounge areas, Silence Room and drinking fountain around them are adults only. Sauna sessions run on a timetable; arrive a few minutes early and do not open the door once an infusion has started. Shower before getting in, and keep sessions in the 93-97°F34-36°C pools short.

Where to stay nearby

The Kehida Termál Hotel is in the same building as the bath, so you can go straight from your room to the pools. The resort also runs the Kehida Holiday Village apartments about 50 m away and Hertelendy House about 150 m away. Hévíz and Keszthely, on Lake Balaton, have a wide range of hotels and guesthouses within a short drive.

Nearby stops worth adding

The village was the home of Ferenc Deák, the statesman behind Hungary’s 1867 Compromise, and the Deák Mansion is now a museum. Check its visiting hours before you go. Lake Hévíz is the obvious pairing for a second spa day.

Safety notes

  • Medical advice: The operator does not recommend the medicinal pools for people with malignant tumours, decompensated heart disease, acute inflammation or renal failure, and bans them for open wounds, active ulcers, infection and anyone drunk.
  • Heat: Even at 93-97°F34-36°C, long sits raise your heart rate. Take breaks.
  • Slides and wet floors: Follow the slide rules and wear flip-flops on the tiles.
